Weedsport CSD Proposes Capital Project

Weedsport CSD Proposes Capital Project

On Tuesday, March 18, residents of the Weedsport Central School District will have the opportunity to vote on a proposed capital project that will implement district-wide health and safety improvements and facilities upgrades.  As the landscape architectural consultant, Appel Osborne has the opportunity to provide the district with significant athletic facility upgrades.  In a statement from the District, they express their dedication to educating the whole child, which includes promoting exercise and wellness.  While an updated outdoor athletic facility will expressly benefit the District’s physical education curriculum and interscholastic sports program, the community is also invited to use the facilities and experience the benefits of an outdoor facility for physical exercise.  The proposed capital project includes reconstruction of the athletic track and installation of a synthetic turf field.

In addition to the health and safety benefits of an updated facility, the synthetic turf field will allow for earlier playability in the spring and later playability in the fall when the use of natural grass fields is hindered by the wet and rainy season.  Related appurtenances to the athletic facility upgrades include walkway replacement and accessible bathroom facilities.

While the improvements also include bleacher and press box replacement, the District understands the importance of the small-town atmosphere which has been a longstanding component of the Weedsport CSD sports experience.  Spectators will still be able to watch games from “the hill” and enjoy viewing events from the traditional hillside perch.
