VanKeuren Square Ground Breaking Ceremony
VanKeuren Square Ground Breaking Ceremony
A ground breaking ceremony was held last Thursday, November 8, to celebrate the development of VanKeuren Square, a new housing facility for Veterans. When completed, the facility will provide permanent supportive housing for Veterans including 44 one-bedroom and 6 two-bedroom apartments as well as a community room, offices, classrooms and laundry facilities. Five units will be fully accessible for persons with mobility impairment and two units will be fully adapted for persons with hearing and/or vision impairment. The building will incorporate sustainable materials and is designed to achieve LEED Platinum and NYSERDA Energy Star® Certifications.
The residence is named in honor of Robert Van Keuren of Canandaigua, NY, a Decorated Combat Veteran of Vietnam, co-founder of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, a founding father of the first Homeless Stand Down program for Veterans, and former Chair of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs’ Advisory Committee on Homeless Veterans. Appel Osborne is excited to be a part of this important project.
