Buffalo-area Schools Investing in New Athletic Complexes

Many Western New York school communities are realizing the value of a functional, practical, and not to mention beautiful athletic complex.  Not only does the transition to a synthetic turf field allow for aesthetic accents that cultivate school spirit, they allow the fields to be used earlier in the spring and later in the fall, as they are more durable and resistant to inclement weather compared to a natural grass field.  As such, long-term maintenance of synthetic turf fields is less demanding than a natural grass field.  Additionally, these fields can be designed to accommodate more sports or even simultaneous sporting events at one complex.

The fields aren’t the only component getting a makeover; the entire athletic complex atmosphere is being transformed through the implementation of new bleachers, restrooms, concession stands, resilient-surface running tracks, sports lighting, video scoreboards and field houses.  Appel Osborne is proud to specialize in outdoor athletic facility design, and we are honored to be a part of many of the athletic complex transformations taking place in and around Buffalo, NY.  Construction was completed in 2015 on a new multipurpose athletic complex at Sweet Home CSD (pictured below) that was designed by AOLA Project Manager, Tim Lobczowski, RLA.  Williamsville CSD celebrated the completion of their new athletic complex at North High School last fall (pictured below), and two more high schools at the district are receiving athletic complex renovations this summer, all designed by AOLA Project Manager, Taylor Goldthwait, RLA.  Our firm is also proud to have athletic facility design underway at Amherst CSD, Cleveland-Hill CSD, Eden CSD and Lockport CSD, just to name the schools mentioned in the article below. 

While we are happy that communities are realizing that these renovations are a worthwhile investment, our firm understands that they are a substantial expense.  Our Partners and Project Managers are dedicated to continually researching and anticipating the trends in synthetic turf, track, and athletic complex features and how they benefit the end-user.  Our team is happy to spend time answering questions and reviewing our research, knowledge, and design to help inform the district and community about this exciting process.
